Tidbit Tuesday

Here is the latest installment of the random thoughts I’m having…

We went snow tubing on Saturday – it was a blast. I had so much fun. It was good to be outside and enjoying the company of friends and family.

Went to visit with my dad and my aunt. It is always good to spend time with them and catch up on the family news.

The sun is shining, my crocuses are blooming and the daffodils and tulips are popping up. Starting to think about planting some cool weather stuff – spinach, lettuce, snow peas, beets and radishes. We’ll see how the next two weeks go.

Need to make a goodwill/half price book run and get rid of some of this stuff I’ve collected.

Hard to believe that Lent has started already.  Just seems like I finished putting the Christmas stuff away.

Have been working with DS to pare down some of his stuff. He seems to be able to let go of stuff much easier than his sister.

Think I’ll go out in the sun for a bit. Be back on Thursday.

Friday Fitness – a day late

We lost our internet connection with the high winds around here yesterday.

Not  a good week for fitness – I did manage 10 minutes of yoga and some walks but I still gained  1.2 pounds. UGH!

This has not been a good month for walking. So far, I’m only averaging 9000 steps a day for this month. I’m going to have to pick up the pace to make 5 million by the end of the year.

Ta Da/To Do Thursday

Here were the tasks for last week  and my results:

1.  Declutter at least one item – old scrapbooks thrown into the trash

2.  Exercise for 15 minutes – 10 minutes of yoga

3.  Be in bed by 10 pm – 7/7 nights

I’m feeling a bit more rested with getting to bed at 10 pm and having several naps this week. Still struggling with the exercise thing but I did increase it a bit. Baby steps, baby steps – I’ll get there eventually.

I’m going to stick with these three again and hope to get all three checked off next week.

I’ll be back tomorrow with my fitness report.

Tidbit Tuesday

Here are the random thoughts floating around in my head today…

I decided to try out DH’s new toy – a battery tester. Discovered that all the pedometers needed to have new batteries. Got some for my first pedometer and went out for my walk. Still not tracking my steps correctly! So very frustrating.

I did get my hair cut but I’m not real happy with it. We talked about how I was coloring it and letting it grow long to keep my family happy. She thought the color and the length were okay but that it needed to be layered some to get rid of the bulkiness. I wish she had cut more off  the top layer, it is still at the awkward stage where it doesn’t do what I want it to do. I suppose I could have asked her to do it but by that time I just wanted to go home and have a good cry.

I always take a book with me in case I have to wait and I had the book  One Perfect Word by Debbie Macomber with me. The book tells how the author picks one word each year to study and focus on. The stylist commented on the book and soon we were talking about some of the words that the author had chosen. The stylist said that she had just done her first “dream board” and was finding things she had chosen to put on it coming true. That lead into a discussion about what my word/vision for me was. Well I didn’t really have one and that coupled with the whole discusssion about my hair made me very emotional.

I do feel like I have lost part of myself these past few years. I used to say I’d get back to doing things for me and my enjoyment when DS went to school. Well, he’s in second grade and I’m still just passing the days away.  I did come up with my six goals to reach by the time I’m sixty but they haven’t really given me the push to change  my daily routine.  I’m not sure what I really want but I do know it isn’t what I’ve got now.

Enough of this – I need to get moving. The laundry is calling. I’ll be back on Thursday.

Fitness Friday

I am so frustrated. I am now on my fourth pedometer since the beginning of the year. My DH got me one for Christmas and it worked well for about a month. After that it started to not count my steps correctly. First I thought it was the battery but that is not the problem. Next my DH got me another one – not as many bells and whistles but that’s okay. I just want to count my steps –  anything else is nice but definitely not necessary. On the third day of use, it disappeared. It must have been dislodged somehow  and is now lost.

Earlier this week,  I bought a  different one, took it home and inserted the battery. Then I tried to get the cover back on. It will not click back on tightly which means that it won’t/can’t record. DH says why bother with it – just spend most of your day on your feet and the pounds will come off. I say I made a goal to try to reach 5 million steps by the end of the year – I want to be able to record my progress.

Let’s face it, I’ve been trying to lose weight for over a year with not a lot of success. I need to be able to see regular progress to have the motivation to continue this journey. Seeing the steps add up is rewarding for me. So, I go out and get my fourth pedometer and I am having trouble setting it up. I couldn’t get the stride length to change but I figured that doesn’t matter since I’m counting steps not distance. So I go for my walk and check my progress after a couple of blocks. Things look good so I’m happy. Then I get home and go to check my total. The screen goes blank and then it is back to zero. UGH!

Don’t know what to do next. Need to think about things for awhile and try to come up with a decision. I just don’t know what to think about this whole fiasco.

Anyway, here is the approximate total for last week – 59,643 steps. Definitely not near the 11,ooo per day that is my goal. Hopefully things will go better next week.

Also there was no change in my weight this week. Definitely need to change things up and get that scale moving back down again. Beautiful sunshine right now – I’m off to do some stuff out in the yard.

Have a great weekend everyone

Ta Da/To Do Thursday

Last week’s tasks were:

1.  Declutter at least one item – put several broken hangers in the trash

2.  Exercise for 15 minutes – did 5 minutes of yoga

3.  Be in bed by 10 pm – 4/7 nights, 2 nights before 11 pm and 1 night at 11:30 pm

Finally did do some exercise now to keep it up and extend it.  Sleep has been an issue this week- not getting into bed on time and not being able to stay asleep through the night.  Will keep the same three tasks for next week and hope that I improve.

Hope you are having some success with your goals whatever they may be. Be back tomorrow with a fitness update. See you then

Tidbit Tuesday

Here are today’s random thoughts …

I’m happy because DH is making dinner tonight – great v-day present for me.

I’m planning to get my hair cut/trimmed?? tomorrow at the Great Clips sale.

I’m wondering if I’m getting sick or just  suffering the effects of menopause. I’m having trouble sleeping because of  night sweats and  several awakenings every night. I’m hot and then cold can’t seem to find a happy medium. Took a 2 hour nap this morning but still feel yucky.

I’m hungry but not for anything I have in the house.

I need to do tax stuff but I really don’t want to. I do want to go back to bed.

Off to try to find something to eat and hopefully the energy to do something today.

Fitness Friday

Here is the January update – no progress in losing inches or pounds. Considering that I did no exercising, I guess I should be happy that I al least didn’t gain anything.

Total steps – 286, 648 or an average of  9246/day. Not where I wanted to be but it’s a start. Hopefully the sickness bug is done with my family and I can get back out to walking everyday.

I’m going to try to get to 319,000 steps this month. That would be an average of 11,000/day. Will need to pick up the pace a bit but I think I can do it.

As of 2/9/12 I have logged 386,528 steps with 4,613, 472 to go to hit my target.

Hope you are doing better with your fitness goals than I am. Maybe this will be the week when I start to turn things around. I’ll let you know next Friday.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Ta Da/ To Do Thursday

The three tasks for last week were as follows:

1. Declutter at least one item – Put some magazines in the box for Half-price Books

2. Exercise 15 minutes – Still haven’t managed to fit this in

3. Be in bed by 10 pm every night – Made it 5 nights out of 7

Why am I struggling so much with this exercise thing?? There are 10,080 minutes in a week – surely I have the time to exercise for a measly 15 minutes. I need to develop my self-discipline/willpower muscle and get this started.

Tasks for next week –

1.  Declutter at least one item

2.  Exercise for 15 minutes

3.  Be in bed by 10 pm

Hope you are having better luck with your tasks. I missed Fitness Friday last week but I’ll be back to update my progress tomorrow. Have a great day

Tidbit Tuesday

Here are the random thoughts in my head this week –

It was nice to get together with friends last week. I wish I could do it more but everyone is always so busy.

Still debating the hair thing. Don’t know what I am going to do.

Was beautiful here and we did some garden clean up tasks. DH pruned the fruit trees and DS helped me toss them over the hillside.

Why can’t they come up with something organic that will kill the weeds forever??

My bulbs are coming up – I transplanted some of them and bought some new daffodil bulbs. Can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Gave blood today – almost didn’t because the iron in one finger was too low but when they did the second finger I was okay. Weird how that works.

Got my ears repierced on Saturday. DD had been wanting hers done so we went together. So far no problems . Just need to keep on cleaning them and turning them. Will be nice to wear earrings again.

Need to get a few things done around here before I pick up the kids for karate.

Be back on Thursday with an update on this week’s tasks – hmm – does gardening count as exercise?
