Can’t believe that the year is almost over. There was so much more I wanted to do but perhaps next year. I hope to get better or a least more consistent in posting my progress next year.
I have read 60 books on my way to my goal of 1500.
I have taken 4 glass classes and created a variety of items. More to come on this.
I have started to try to find ways to save more money.
I have looked at various companies that sponsor trips to the Galapagos Islands.
I have looked into possible retreats for next year.
I had a discussion with the girl about her quilt. Now we need to come up with a design and fabric.
So, I can look back and say I made a least a tiny start on all of my goals and that makes me very happy.
I’ll try to be back soon with more details.
I have completed 2 of my 4 classes. I took the sampler pack so that I could try out all 4 of the studio processes.
My first class was in the stained glass studio. I made a small suncatcher with some precut pieces of glass. I wasn’t too thrilled with the choices we had to use but it didn’t turn out too bad. It was interesting but I’m not sure it is something I want to continue to do.
Then, last night I went to the flame studio to make a flamecicle. I was really looking forward to this one. I found it a bit difficult to do- trying to keep both hands moving the glass was a challenge. I’m not too sure how they turned out – the color won’t show up until they come out of the kiln. I had hoped to make them longer but it would get too thin and then break off. For a first attempt though it was a fun experience. Melissa, our instructor was very encouraging and helpful.
Next up is the hot studio where we will be making blown glass ornaments. By the end of the month I will be able to cross this goal off my list!
I have finally made a decision. I’m registered to take a 4 class sampler at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. I will get to try each of the various methods (hot, cold, flame and warm). Each class lasts 2 hours and will give me a chance to see which method I might like to do more of. Plus, each class will produce an object of some sort – a blown glass ornament for my Christmas tree, a flamecicle to hang, a fused glass ornament and a small stained glass panel or sun catcher. I am looking forward to these opportunities – and to checking off one of my 6 by 60 goals. The first class is November 23rd. Come back then for an update and perhaps a picture if I can figure out how to do that or get someone to do it for me.
I received a course schedule from the local Glass Center. This may be the year that I try a few things there. They offer a variety of classes in each medium. I need to think about my schedule and pin down some dates. It would be nice to complete at least one goal before this year is up.
