Tidbit Tuesday

Just another unedited, sloppy installment of the random thoughts running around in my head today…

Another holiday come and gone. We had two thanksgiving dinners this year – one with the in-laws and one with the girl.  The boy made a pumpkin pie but it fell on its way out of the oven. What a mess but it will be  a good memory in the years to come.

Nice visit with the girl – no arguments or heated discussions. Still haven’t managed to meet the boyfriend – hopefully it will happen some time soon.

Finally convinced the hubby that it was time to retire his artificial Christmas tree. We got a new one from Target and put it up the day after Thanksgiving. The boy decorated it and now we are just waiting to see how Marco will react to it. I need to get the other decorations out, check and see what is in need of repairs or is no longer something I want to have, and then put them out.

Starting to look ahead to next year – thinking about what I might want to achieve. Lots of ideas – need to really consider what is most important and choose just a few to really focus on and commit to making progress.

Progress – that was supposed to be my word of the year for 2016. I didn’t do very well with that. I started out strong but quickly faltered and then it just faded away. I stopped keeping track and gradually it just became “out of sight, out of mind.” I need to develop a better system to keep my goals in front of me.

That’s it for today – I’ll be back later in the week with another declutter update. Until then, have a great day wherever you are.

100 Day Challenge Progress Report Update – v 9

I’m still plugging away at this challenge, slowly making progress and getting close to my goal. This week’s total is eight items which puts me at 94 total items so far. Here’s the breakdown for this week:

trash – a dried up sharpie marker, one of my husband’s sweatshirts(stained,  previously mended, cuffs stretched and fraying – he is finally giving up on it), and two magazines(I decided to just tear out the quilt patterns I wanted to keep instead of keeping the whole magazine)

donations – an old telephone, a pen(the color is just too light for me to read),  and two magazines

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ll be back next week and hopefully I’ll be over the one hundred item count. Keep working on your goal and let me know how you are doing in the comments.

Tuesday Tidbits

Just another unedited, sloppy edition of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Finished the ten day detox – wasn’t as bad as I had imagined it would be but I’m glad to be done. After meeting with the doctor and reviewing my blood work, I’ve got a plan for Thanksgiving dinner and how to begin to add back foods. On Thanksgiving day I’ll be able to eat anything except sugar and then I’ll do a couple of days on the restricted diet. Then I’ll slowly add back in the major possible allergens and see if I have any reactions. Should be an interesting few weeks.

According to my bloodwork, my thyroid is not working and is probably why I’m struggling to lose weight and have little energy. She majorly increased my thyroid meds and will check my levels at the end of December.  Really need to do a better job of monitoring myself and doing the things that give me energy. Till the end of the year I’m going to really work on getting to bed before 10 pm.

Another thing I need to work on is doing a better job of creating and sticking to boundaries when it comes to my children. Yesterday I agreed to do a favor for the girl. I was supposed to pick her and her laundry up and bring them here so she could do her wash and pick up some Christmas decorations for her place. I go over there and realize I forgot to bring my phone. I stand out in the cold knocking, then pounding on her door but get no answer.  I leave because I need to be home to let the boy into the house. I’m thinking “maybe she left me a message saying she couldn’t make it.” What do I find when I get home? A message asking when am I going to get there? Turns out she was there but upstairs and couldn’t hear me knocking. Maybe it’s just me, but if someone was doing me a favor, I would be waiting by the door so I wouldn’t keep them waiting. Then what do I do? I agree to come and get her after I take the boy to karate – knowing full well that I’ll probably be up past my bedtime waiting for her to get done -arggh!On the flip side, we did have some good conversation although I did not call her out on her behavior which I really should have.

I’m looking for a new artificial Christmas tree. I’d prefer a real tree but with the cat and the possibility of traveling, I’m looking at artificial this year. We have one that my husband had before we got married – so we’re talking at least 20+ years old- but it is just looking sad anymore. Target has one on sale that I like just need too make sure that it will fit in the space. Although with the cat, we may decide to put it upstairs. There would be no problem with it fitting if we do that. We usually put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving so I need to get to the store soon. If you celebrate, when do you start decorating for the holidays? Leave me a comment with details – I’d love to hear from you.

Until next time, have a great day wherever you are.

100 Day Challenge Progress Report – v 8

This week I got the boy involved in the project. Hopefully I can get him to go through stuff and simplify his stuff. He(like me) has a lot of stuff that never gets touched and could be used or enjoyed by others. He has a lot of pokemon cards that he is willing to let go of. Debating about packaging them to try and sell them so I’m not counting those in yet.

Here’s this week’s total and breakdown – seven items decluttered

trash – small bag of fabric scraps -this was a grab bag I bought at a quilt store. I took out the ones I might use and I’m tossing the rest

donation – hulk costume and a pair of boy’s dress pants -too small to be worn again

two nerf guns

a pair of ladies dress shoes –  I wore them to church this week and I  was really uncomfortable – not sure if it was due to the heel height because I haven’t worn heels in ages or if my feet have grown

and a book.

That’s it for this week. How are you doing with your challenge? Let me know in the comments.

Tidbit Tuesday

Just another unedited, sloppy installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Still have a few mums and geraniums blooming but that’s about it for the garden. Luckily my bathroom cactus has a few buds so there will soon be more flowers in my life again. Still haven’t finished the garden clean up but I’m no longer stressing out about it. Whatever gets done, gets done.

Had a pleasant dinner with the girl, I had been a bit worried that political talk might mar it -she is an ardent anti-Trump fan and my hubby is for Trump, but there wasn’t too much said. I was disappointed that her boyfriend had to work so I still haven’t gotten to meet him. We’ll try again on Thanksgiving since he doesn’t spend it with family.

Finally got all the Halloween stuff put away – feeling a bit bad because I bought new decorations while I’m in the midst of trying to declutter. However, I do love Halloween and we didn’t have many outside decorations. Plus it was something the boy really wanted and it made him happy to arrange everything.

I’m on my fourth day of a ten day detox program that my doctor prescribed. It hasn’t been as bad as I had thought but I will be heading into the three days that are really restricted and that could change my mind.  Not sure how much I really believe this will help but hopefully it won’t hurt anything. I was sure I would be dying for sugar but so far it hasn’t been bad at all. In fact at the coffee hour after church I really didn’t struggle at all with skipping the cookies and having some fruit. Hopefully this will help me get a handle on my sugar consumption because I can’t go on eating candy as a meal – just too many bad results from that habit.

I’m off to try and do some decluttering – I’ll be back Friday with my results. Until then have a great day!

100 Day Challenge Progress Report – v 7

Well I made some progress this week and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of decluttering.

I put 2 things in the donation pile – a pair of corduroy pants that are too short and too tight for me and a skirt that I no longer fit into.

I threw away 3 annual reports and an old church directory.

I gave a shirt and a pair of ear muffs to a friend.

That brings this week’s total to 8 items. Getting closer and closer to my goal.

How are things going with your challenge? Leave a comment and let me know what you are working on.

Finally went out and voted. I really struggled this year – not too impressed with the candidates. It is a shame that there weren’t better choices. I worry that no matter who is elected there will be problems moving forward. It seems that people are so much nastier this time around.

I didn’t get nearly as much done out in the garden as I could have. Looks like there will lots to clean up come spring. Need to come up with a plan to get things to a more manageable state.

Need to go through the Halloween stuff and see what is worth keeping and what I might want to get rid of.  I know there are some costumes that should go but it is like pulling teeth to get the boy to get rid of them. We’ll see if I can make some progress this time around. We ended up getting quite a few new decorations which I’m going to have to find room to store.

Not much else to post  this time around – I’ll be back later in the week with the next challenge report.

100 Day Challenge Progress Report – v 6

Another week with little progress made. It’s a good thing I started out strong because I’m slowing down here lately.

I finally convinced my son to send an old, raggedy costume to the trash.

I put 3 sets of plastic vampire teeth in the donation bag which just about fills the bag. I need to make a call so that the bag can finally get out of the house. Actually I have two bags that have been sitting around for several months that I need to get out of the house.

That makes 4 items for this week and a total of 79 for the challenge. If I can do an item a day, I’ll make my goal. Time to go look at some more stuff and see what I can let go of.

How are you doing with your challenge? Let me know in the comments below.

I spent so much time planning stuff to do outside during the church get together and then it rained most of the time – ugh. However, a good time was had by all I think. The kids played together nicely, the guys hung out under the pop up and the moms talked and supervised. Now I need to figure out what to do with the leftovers.

I dyed my hair pink to coordinate with my costume and I got quite a few compliments from the trick or treaters last night. I’m keeping it in for a bit because it makes me happy to see it when I look in the mirror.

Finally went to see the doctor and will be trying a metabolic detoxification program for ten days. I really want to get my diet under control. I’ve been eating way too much junk and sweets lately. We’ll see how it goes. Of course I’m waiting until after the girl’s birthday which should also allow me to get my fill of the Halloween wealth.

Looks like we will have some sunny days this week so I’ll have a few more chances to try to finish up some more garden tasks. It’s a never ending job but  every little bit of time and effort helps to get it closer to my ideal.
