So, as I mentioned in my last post, I have had a major disruption in my life recently.  My Dad went into the hospital in late January and on January 29th(the day  I was to begin my 100 day challenge), my sister called to say that the doctor didn’t think our dad would make it through the night.  I threw together a few things and left.

When I got to the hospital, Dad was alert and aware but his oxygen and blood pressure were unstable. The infection had become/had been ?? a blood infection. He had been scheduled to have tests done but they were unable to perform the tests.  It became clear that it was time to move to comfort measures and let things run their course.

We brought him home and had hospice come in.  We were given an estimate of 3-5 days but he lasted just over two weeks. Luckily for us he had only minor pain at the very end and just slipped peacefully away. I can not say enough about the hospice staff. They took care of so many little details, provided us with necessary supplies and were in daily to check on dad and give him a bath.  He was really touched by the pinning ceremony they did in honor of  his Army service . We were truly blessed to have them during this time.

Between caring for my dad, searching for paperwork(insurance polices, the will, veteran service info), helping my sister to begin to clear out the house, traveling and the funeral, I have gotten way off track yet again. My original 100 day challenge has been scrapped and I’ve been working on a 50 day challenge involving getting rid of one item per day and getting the business and personal tax information together. I’m giving myself some grace and not focusing on health as much right now. I need to see tangible results each day and that isn’t as easy when I’m working on my health.

Well, that’s a quick recap of my February, what’s been happening in your neck of the woods?? Let me know by leaving a comment.

Just another unedited/sloppy installment of the thoughts running around in my head today…

I’m so frustrated – I spent what seemed like hours trying on almost every bra in my size before deciding on two to purchase. There was very little in the wireless section, so I ended up with wires that seemed bearable. However, once I wore them for an entire day, I discovered that one bra  was really uncomfortable. I need to go back out again but I’m putting it off for awhile – I need to recover from this trip before I head out again. I’ll just make do with what I have.

Since I did get my glasses and at least one acceptable bra, I’ve been thinking about my next two projects to work on. One is definitely getting my tax information together and setting up a routine so I’m not scrambling to find everything again next year. Not sure about the other one – need to think some more.

The house looks and feels so much better since we got things cleaned up for the party. Now the job is to keep it this way – don’t let things start to pile up again and make sure that the guys keep putting their stuff away.

It is a beautifully sunny day but we’ve been having a cold snap and I haven’t been able to work in the garden. There are a lot of weeds to pull, several trees/bushes to prune and I need to think about spring planting.

I do love this time of year – Easter is such a time of new promise and hope. I love the traditions and look forward to the church services of Holy week.  Each service has something different to offer to the complete story. I’m also looking forward to the weekend and spending time with my extended family. Never seems like we do that enough anymore. People are always so busy and it is so hard to make plans.  Maybe its harder because I’m the one doing the work now – adulthood is a lot harder than I expected. Not sure why anyone is in such a hurry to grow up and take on all these responsibilities.

Hope you are enjoying some signs of spring today. Enjoy your day until next time.

Just another unedited/sloppy installment of the thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Another beautiful sunshiny day. The weekend was unseasonable warm and I was able to get out and clean up some areas of the garden. I finally decided to dig up the blueberry bushes. They have not done well for years and I’m going to look for new ones this year. I pruned some dead stuff from various bushes and got rid of some trash that was in the yard.

We are having a group of people from church over next month and that has lit a fire under the hubby to get some things taken care of. Two paintings have been hung, various boxes of tools and other stuff have been sorted/trashed/stored  and space is being reclaimed. There is lots remaining to do but things are looking up.

It’s time for the business tax work to be done – well, really it is past time(as usual). I need to finish gathering up the paperwork and get it to the accountant. Every year I say I’m going to do a better job and every year I’m scrambling to get it together. I’m so very lucky to have a great and understanding accountant.

I’m going to close for now because I’ve got to get out and pick up supplies for this week’s Lenten dinner at church. Our group is hosting a salad bar and I’m the shopper.  Hope you are having a great day wherever you are.

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

I could spend a week of 8 hour days weeding and I don’t think I would be able to clear all my garden beds – ugh! With more rain forecast there are just going to be more and more of them popping up.

I still need to get the tax stuff together and out to the accountant – I miss those days when I could fill out the EZ form and be done in a couple of hours.

Just over 8 weeks until school is out and summer vacation begins. The girl will be gone for most of it – working at a overnight camp for June and July and then off with a friend for a week in August. The boy has two weeks of camp set up so far. Not sure what else we will do – may try to get to an amusement park again. Definitely need a plan and then need to stick to it.

I have been making really bad choices lately and I need to turn things around.  This continual cycle of starting a plan and not following through for any length of time is really getting old. I’m tired of disappointing myself and not making any forward progress. I need to get serious about uncovering what is keeping me from doing what I say I want to do.  Need to figure out what I’m afraid of and try to come to terms with it.

Would like to update my fitness and one word goals but I don’t want to be depressed by my lack of progress – maybe I’ll get to it next week.

Guess that’s it for today – thanks for stopping by.

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head…

It has been a bit rough here  – my uncle died, my daughter is struggling with a lot of things, the weather is all over the place,  too many activities going on at the same time, all the personal tax info to gather and the list goes on. I need to learn to keep myself on track when the unexpected pops up – definitely need to develop more skill in this area.

Lots to do to get the garden ready. Looks like some stuff did not make it through the extreme weather again this year. Need to clean up some areas and see what might come back up again this year. First up is to do some pruning, decide on what seeds to plant and do some transplanting.

Haven’t done any decorating for Easter and doesn’t look like I will get any done. Still need to get some stuff for the baskets. We will definitely do some egg dyeing/decorating during spring break.

It is science fair time again -yuck. Need to help DS find a project and then make sure that it actually gets done.

Hope Spring has arrived in your area bringing a breath of fresh air and a renewed desire to work towards your goals.

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head…

Tax time again – the business tax stuff should have been to the accountant last month but as usual I’m behind. You would think that after so many years of doing this that I would be better at it than I am.  Then it will be all the personal stuff. I really need to get a system in place and then actually use it.

I’m really ready for spring to show up – tired of the gray skies, I need some sunshine.

Still feeling a bit off – haven’t really been able to get things moving since I got back from Israel. School delays, work duties, emotional ups and downs – it just seems as if everything is conspiring against me. I get in those negative thought ruts and can’t seem to get out. Then comes the emotional eating. A pattern that needs to change.

My doctor thinks I’m depressed again – wants me to try a natural supplement. I thought that I had finally put that behind me but I guess not.

I have been trying to keep up with my exercise goals. I missed one day of my hundred days of doing a plank but other than that I have been walking, doing yoga, riding the bike and doing some weight work. The weight work is tough – I have very little upper body strength and my knees aren’t all that great but I’m going slow and trying to keep at it.

Hope things are going well in your part of the world – thanks for stopping by.
