Just another unedited, sloppy installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…
I put out three large bags and two small containers of stuff for pick up by the Viet Nam Veterans of America. It feels so good to get those things out of the house. My daughter took her snow board and a painting she had done and I tossed a Christmas dish towel that I couldn’t get clean. That brings my total up to 129 items! Unfortunately there is still a lot that could be cleaned out so I am going to continue working on this challenge next year.
We had a very nice visit with my dad, my sister and my niece and nephews. We took the cat which was an experience. He “talked” for almost all of the four hours we were in the car. He was not a fan of my niece’s dog – he would arch his back, hiss and put up his claws when the dog got too close.
As I suspected the girl was not able to make it but we had a nice visit last night. I finally got to meet the boyfriend. He was rather quiet but seems nice. They got a pair of young cats for Christmas. Now the boy is wanting to get another cat as well. Not sure how I feel about that.
The boy got everything on his list but is still not satisfied. He is very happy with what he got but still wants more. He got some cash (in addition to the gifts) from his grandparents and is upset that we won’t take him shopping. He hasn’t even had time to explore everything he got and he wants more. Definitely need to work on this attitude.
I’ve been thinking about plans for next year but I haven’t settled on anything yet. What are you hoping to accomplish in 2017? Let me know in the comments.
Just another sloppy, unedited installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted -there has just been a lot going on with all of the end of the year activities and I haven’t taken the time to sit down and type up a post. I have been thinking about how the year has gone and how I would like next year to go. I’ve got lots of ideas but I need to try to figure what makes sense and is within the realm of possibility.
We’re headed to my Dad’s for Christmas and I don’t think the girl will make it. She has to work Christmas Eve and doesn’t have adequate transportation to make the distance. Plus she wants to spend time with her boyfriend and I’m not sure she’s ready to expose him to the whole clan.
I added two tank tops, 15 children’s books, a pair of snow boots, a pair of dress shoes, two hats, and two pillowcases to the donation pile and I tossed two expired supplements. That puts me over the one hundred items decluttered mark which means I met my hundred day challenge. Or did I? I started thinking about things and I’m wondering – if I bought something to replace something I got rid of(a new tree to replace the old one, a new topper for the tree to replace the broken one, a better fitting hat), should I really count those items?? If the goal is to simplify and have fewer possessions then the answer is no but if the goal is to only have things I love and enjoy then the answer is yes. Something to ponder for the new year.
I hope that wherever you are and whatever you are doing you have a wonderful end of this year and a great beginning to the new year. See you in 2017!
Really slowing down as the year comes to a close. Not a lot of items to report this week but I hit the 100 item mark.
Trashed – my husband’s artificial tree – finally got him to agree to let go of this and a handmade angel topper for the tree( I never really cared for this but I thought it was one of hubby’s treasured family heirlooms then this year it finally fell apart and he said it wasn’t really special so we tossed it)
Donating – a hairbrush, a sweatshirt, a sweater, a pair of dress socks and a fabric bookcover
Still have lots of areas to go through so I’m going to keep on plugging along.
How is your challenge coming along? Have you started thinking about a challenge to start off 2017? Let me know in the comments.
I’m still plugging away at this challenge, slowly making progress and getting close to my goal. This week’s total is eight items which puts me at 94 total items so far. Here’s the breakdown for this week:
trash – a dried up sharpie marker, one of my husband’s sweatshirts(stained, previously mended, cuffs stretched and fraying – he is finally giving up on it), and two magazines(I decided to just tear out the quilt patterns I wanted to keep instead of keeping the whole magazine)
donations – an old telephone, a pen(the color is just too light for me to read), and two magazines
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’ll be back next week and hopefully I’ll be over the one hundred item count. Keep working on your goal and let me know how you are doing in the comments.
This week I got the boy involved in the project. Hopefully I can get him to go through stuff and simplify his stuff. He(like me) has a lot of stuff that never gets touched and could be used or enjoyed by others. He has a lot of pokemon cards that he is willing to let go of. Debating about packaging them to try and sell them so I’m not counting those in yet.
Here’s this week’s total and breakdown – seven items decluttered
trash – small bag of fabric scraps -this was a grab bag I bought at a quilt store. I took out the ones I might use and I’m tossing the rest
donation – hulk costume and a pair of boy’s dress pants -too small to be worn again
two nerf guns
a pair of ladies dress shoes – I wore them to church this week and I was really uncomfortable – not sure if it was due to the heel height because I haven’t worn heels in ages or if my feet have grown
and a book.
That’s it for this week. How are you doing with your challenge? Let me know in the comments.
Well I made some progress this week and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of decluttering.
I put 2 things in the donation pile – a pair of corduroy pants that are too short and too tight for me and a skirt that I no longer fit into.
I threw away 3 annual reports and an old church directory.
I gave a shirt and a pair of ear muffs to a friend.
That brings this week’s total to 8 items. Getting closer and closer to my goal.
How are things going with your challenge? Leave a comment and let me know what you are working on.
Another week with little progress made. It’s a good thing I started out strong because I’m slowing down here lately.
I finally convinced my son to send an old, raggedy costume to the trash.
I put 3 sets of plastic vampire teeth in the donation bag which just about fills the bag. I need to make a call so that the bag can finally get out of the house. Actually I have two bags that have been sitting around for several months that I need to get out of the house.
That makes 4 items for this week and a total of 79 for the challenge. If I can do an item a day, I’ll make my goal. Time to go look at some more stuff and see what I can let go of.
How are you doing with your challenge? Let me know in the comments below.
Just a quick one for today because as usual I’ve waited till the last minute and have lots to do to get ready for the party on Sunday.
It was not a good week for decluttering. I only managed to get rid of a few things this time around. Here’s the list –
donated items – one pair of driving gloves that got wet and shrunk and are now too tight and one metal pencil case that is too hard for my son to get open and no one else wants
trash – one stick type vacuum cleaner that ran over something and then dies a loud, lingering death
That’s it for this week – how are you doing with your challenge? Let me know in the comments
Another good week for decluttering. This time it was mostly clothing from the boy and myself. Except where noted everything went into a bag to be donated to VVA. My total for this week is 18 items which puts me over half way to my goal of 100 items. Here’s the full list –
1 pair of swim trunks
2 pairs of shorts
1 pair of rain pants
1 coffee mug
2 books donated to my church library
2 tops thrown away – I had been trying to get stains out but finally decided to give up and toss them
Are you playing along? Let me know in the comments what kind of progress you did or didn’t make this week.
This was a good week for decluttering. There was an art swap at an event on the weekend so I gathered up some stuff that had been my mother-in-law’s and took it to the swap. There were also a few items that got tossed in the trash. Here’s the breakdown:
to the trash – 1 liquid eyeshadow, no longer liquid; a dried up sharpie and a tube of toothpaste that expired 6/14
to the art swap –
9 tubes of acrylic paint
2 sponge brushes
12 paint brushes
1 painting knife
3 tubes of water color paint
1 Kemper B-3 clean up tool
1 bottle of artist brush cleaner
1 bottle of floating medium
1 bottle of acrylic paint
Total for the week 34 items
Total for the challenge so far 54 items – yippee! over half way there with plenty of time still to go.
How did you do this week? I hope you are having success with your chosen challenge. Please feel free to join in if you haven’t already and let us know what your challenge is in the comments. Thanks!
