Tuesday Tidbits

Just another sampling of the random thoughts running around in my head…

I’m wondering how other mom bloggers manage to post regularly during spring break. When my kids are home my schedule goes out the window and nothing gets done.

I’m enjoying the decluttered feel of the house – a benefit of hosting a get together for our church youth group.

I’m hoping that the cold and the rain move through so I can get to work in the garden. I especially need to get to work in my front sidewalk bed before the thorny weeds overtake the area.

I’m loving the look of my orchard since it was pruned by a fellow wordpress blogger, Chris Condello. He did a marvelous job and the area looks so much better. I do still need to dig up the dead cherry tree but everything else is leafing and blooming and looking great.

I’m trying to remember that the choices my 16 year old makes are not a reflection of me or my  attempts at training her to be an adult.

I’m trying not to soothe my worried mind with massive quantities of M&M candies(unfortunately I’m not being too successful with this one).

I’m thinking uncharitable thoughts about those people who think it is a good idea to require  fourth grade boys to do science fair projects.

I’m looking forward to Pilates class tonight and wishing I could/would make time for it more than just once a week.

I could go on but I need to get to work on the chicken so we can have dinner.

Have a great week everyone.

MUMday

Measure Up Monday – time to look and see how I’m doing on my goals

The first quarter of 2014 is over and let’s see where I am with my reading goal.  The goal is to read 150 books – 50 from my stash of books, 50 from my library wishlist and 50 from other sources.  So far I have read 49 books with 10 coming from my stash, 4 from my library wishlist and 35 coming off the shelves of the library as I browse while waiting for my children to get their books.

I do currently have 5 books from my wishlist  that I will be reading this month and I need to add a few from my stash as well. I should stop browsing the shelves and just take a book to read while I wait at the library. We’ll see if I can manage that.

Have you read anything good lately?

Fitness Friday

Update on this year’s fitness goals – original goal in bold and updated goal in italics

Steps – 10,000/day = 3,650,000 minimum    13,700/day =  5,000,000 stretch

total as of 3/31/14  1,172,955   worked out to an average of 13038 daily which is 662 steps short of my stretch goal

New goal   10,000/day =3,650,000 minimum    13,917/daily = 5,000,000 stretch

I am pleased with my progress so far – I figured that the weather might make it tough to meet my stretch goal this quarter and it did. I expect to have an easier time meeting the stretch goal during the next 6 months when the weather is better. We’ll see how I do.

I have not done as well with my swimming goals. Between the frigid temperatures, kids home due to school closings and the pool closed for repairs I have not done much swimming but hope to do better beginning now!

Minimum goal – 26,000 meters     stretch goal 52,000 meters

Total as of 3/31/14  1250 meters

New goal  2750 meters/month =26,000 minimum    5650 meters/month =52,000 stretch

Did you make any fitness goals for this year? How are you doing? Let me know and I’ll cheer you along.

Space – One Word 2014

I chose space as my one word for this year.  As I wrote at the beginning of the year —

I want to finally finish my space – the loft where I have been slowly clearing stuff out and thinking of how to set it  up for my purposes. I want to make space in my closets, on my shelves, in my project containers and elsewhere. I want to create space in my schedule for creative pursuits, for reading, for self-care activities and family. I want to create a space that is peaceful, loving and restorative for my family to come home to.

I have made some progress – the loft is almost clear of stuff that doesn’t belong to me. There are definite areas set up so I can exercise, read, sew, quilt, scrapbook and do other creative activities. I’ve cleaned out my winter wardrobe and have more closet and shelf space. I’m working on creating space in my schedule – I need to remember that I cleared time for me and not give it away to others. I’m still working on what a peaceful/loving/restorative home  means and looks  to us as a family. Not everyone agrees and I want to try to honor each of us in some way. It’s a work in progress.

Did you choose a word for this year?  What kind of progress have you made – please share in the comments.

Tuesday Tidbits

Here is the latest installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Today I am…

Loving the start of baseball season – go Bucs!

Glad that the busyness of last week is over – preparing food for  3 church events in 5 days is a bit tiring

Hoping the warm weather is here to stay – would like to get out in the garden and do some clean up, bed prep and seed planting

Feeling thankful for good times with good friends

Amazed that the first quarter of 2014 is already over – need to check in with my yearly goals and adjust as needed

How are you doing today?
