I am…

I am trying to get back on track after a major disruption to my life(more about that in a future post)

I am listening to the wind chimes and enjoying the sound

I am seeing bright sunshine after morning thunderstorms

I am looking forward to our church’s Ash Wednesday dinner and service

I am planning to focus on the discipline of prayer throughout this Lenten season

I am enjoying the smell of the lemon tree blossoms as Marco, our cat, brushes up against the tree

I am savoring a Hershey Kiss – trying to make it last as long as I can to enjoy that chocolatey sensation

I am working on a plan to make some progress with my one word 2017 challenge

I am reading  The Power of When by Michael Breus, PhD and trying to decide if I am a Lion or a Bear although with recent events I have been a Dolphin

The List for 2015 – updated

UPDATE as of 3/1/2015 – have only completed 3 tasks, definitely need to get cracking and get some work done. We’ll see how it goes this month.

This is my list of routines to start performing and projects to complete during 2015. For now I’m just writing the item and then later I’ll explain what the item is and why it is on the list. Some of them have definite times when they will need to be done and others can be done at any time throughout the year.  Here they are in no particular order…

  1. Yellow dot information – health information to store in your car in case you are in an accident and unable to speak
  2. Vials of life information – health information to store in your refrigerator to aid EMT’s who are called to your home
  3. Bedroom curtains – need to get something up to block the streetlight and the neighbor’s motion lights so I can get some good sleep
  4. Garden Stones – decorations/borders for in the garden/yard
  5. The girl’s quilt – she picked out the pattern and fabric ages ago and we need to get it finished before she graduates in 2016

  9. The boy’s scrapbooks
  10. Ott light bulbs – I have several Ott lights that need new bulbs but I haven’t been able to find the bulbs when I go to the store, maybe it’s time to order on line?
  11. Credit report routine – should be checking these on a regular basis
  12. Names of Jesus garland-Christmas
  13. Names of Jesus garland – Easter
  14. Get new glasses – lost my reading glasses 11/13 and still haven’t replaced them, probably will need new far and near vision lenses
  15. Duvet cover – comforter has several tears which can not really be repaired and look nice so I got fabric to make a duvet cover but it is just sitting by my sewing machine

Tidbit Tuesday

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head…

I had hoped to have done a few posts reviewing my goals from last year but life intervened, hopefully I’ll get them up soon.

The girl had the flu for Christmas – not fun at all.

We had a lovely time away but I’ve added snowboarding to my list of activities I can’t get the hang of. My brain understands what the instructor says to do but it can’t make my body do what it hears!

Icy roads, accidents, late buses, school delays – all are messing with the new schedule I had hoped to implement this year.

Finally discovered the source of the horrible odor near the computer – a dead mouse in the space under the tub – yuck! That makes 5 mice so far this year. There are just too many ways for them to get in – the kids say “let’s get a cat” but hubby is allergic so it isn’t happening.

I started work on my project list – finished reading 2 books from shelves and I’ve started to work on a schedule of which ones need to be done at a certain time. More information to come in the days ahead.

Hope your new year has started out great.

Tidbit Tuesday

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head…

I am so not ready for Christmas – still need to order a few gifts, sort out what is from us/my dad/my in-laws/Santa, and get everything wrapped.

It was pouring this morning when I went to take the boy to the bus, then it was sunny and 50some degrees when I went to pick up the car and now it is back to dark and gloomy. December should bring snow not buckets of rain.

The family went ice skating last night. The boy’s school sponsors a free skate night at the local ice rink. This has been happening for the past 6 years but this was the first one we attended. The temps were in the forties so I decided to brave it. I love snow /winter but I’m not really into winter sports(because as I’ve stated before, I’m extremely non-athletic). Dear Hubby and the girl are quite proficient at skating while the boy just runs around like a mad man. I attempted skating and it was an experience. First I held onto the railing and the hubby’s hand for a few laps around the rink. Then I participated in a lesson given by one of the rink employees. I sort of mastered getting up after falling and the “pushing” move but then she wanted us to let go of the side and I just was not ready for that. I did commandeer a “walker” and did some gliding around with it but it didn’t take long for my legs to decide it was time for a break. Will I do it again?? Maybe, if I get to use a walker!

Finally got some(actually most) of the books I’ve read listed. I made my goal of 150 for the year. I’ll have to check to see the breakdown but I’m sure most of them were not from my shelf or list. Would like to do better at that next year.

I’m getting so close to five million steps – I should definitely make it. Just have to make sure that I get a minimum amount on Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.

I’m mulling ideas about next year and I’m almost ready to post – just need to find some time. Hopefully I’ll get it done before the end of the year.

That’s it for now – hope you are finding some time to enjoy the season. Don’t let the demands of this time keep you from the important things – time with friends and family.

Tuesday Tidbits

Just another installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head…

How peaceful it is now that the first week of school is over and we are settling into our new routine. There will be some tweaking and fine-tuning to do but things are beginning to shape up and hopefully we will get off to a strong start this week.

I’m not ready to lose the slave labor(aka the kiddos) in the garden but I am savoring the silence and the solitude during the day. I have truly missed these hours alone with time to putter about, read, goof off on the computer and just be free to enjoy whatever calls to me. It  really a struggle for me when I don’t have that time by myself.

Was hoping to get out into the garden over the weekend but family obligations and the weather kept me away.  There is so much to do and I’ve been doing a little bit in an area and then moving onto the next space but I’m not going to get everything done before winter comes.  I’d like to get one or two areas completely done instead of just doing a bit in every area. The question is where to focus?? Need to give it some thought.

August was not a great month for fitness and I need to develop a better schedule/routine for the fall. I have some ideas but will need to wait to see if they will work. The pool is closed for maintenance this week but next week I’m going to try to do 2 afternoon sessions and see if they will work in my daily routine. Getting back to the routine of school bus walks should help with my step goal and I need to stick to my daily walk on the weekend as well.

Definitely need to get serious about taxes – our accountant got an extension and the deadline is coming up. I’ve had months to get it all together but I have not done it. I keep putting it off and now I really must do it. Ugh- why do I do this to myself?

Off to scour the freezer for dinner options for the week. Have a wonderful day.

MUMday

Measure Up Monday – time to see how I am doing on my goals

I have been doing a lot of reading lately and am happy to say that I have read  112 books so far this year.  It breaks down to 22 from my library wish list, 41 from shelves and 49 picked up at the library while waiting for my kids to get their stuff.

Now the next big task is to get them entered into the 1500 Book Challenge list. Hopefully I can work on that in the next week or so.

What have you read lately? Leave me a comment and let me know.
