Tidbit Thursday

Just another sloppy, unedited installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

The weather is so crazy lately – upper 50s, low 60s over the weekend and now it is trying to snow. I did some cleaning up that I didn’t get to at the end of the fall season, weeded some of the beds and pruned some catmint and clematis. Need to decide what to do with the orchard area and then make plans to do it or get it done. Would like to put a bench in somewhere but I’m not really sure where or what kind.

Still having trouble dealing with the changes that school breaks bring. Can’t seem to get myself to stay on schedule when the boy is home. I need to start getting ready for the first hundred day challenge of this year. I’ve been doing fairly good with my walking but my sleep has been all over the place and I’ve gone back to eating way too much sugar.

My dad went back into the hospital -some major infections and he has not been taking care of himself. There is only so much my sister can do – if he refuses to eat/drink/take his meds properly then he isn’t going to stay well. I wish I was closer but honestly if he isn’t going to do it for her he probably wouldn’t do it for me either. It’s hard to be a parent to your parent.

I’ve done some decluttering – need to get that posted. I’m going to try to get rid of at least 365 things this year. There is a lot that I can remove and there is certainly a lot my family can get rid of. I’m going to try and get them on board as well. We’ll see how it goes.

Hope you are having a great day wherever you are and I’ll try to be back again soon.

Tidbit Thursday

Just another sloppy, unedited  installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted -there has just been a lot going on with all of the end of the year activities and I haven’t taken the time to sit down and type up a post. I have been thinking about how the year has gone and how I would like next year to go. I’ve got lots of ideas but I need to try to figure what makes sense and is within the realm of possibility.

We’re headed to my Dad’s for Christmas and I don’t think the girl will make it. She has to work Christmas Eve  and doesn’t have adequate transportation to make the distance.  Plus she wants to spend time with her boyfriend and I’m not sure she’s ready to expose him to the whole clan.

I added two tank tops, 15 children’s books, a pair of snow boots, a pair of dress shoes, two hats,  and two pillowcases to the donation pile and I tossed two expired supplements. That puts me over the one hundred items decluttered mark which means I met my hundred day challenge. Or did I?  I started thinking about things and I’m wondering – if I bought something to replace something I got rid of(a new tree to replace the old one, a new topper for the tree to replace the broken one, a better fitting hat), should I really count those items?? If the goal is to simplify and have fewer possessions then the answer is no but if the goal is to only have things I love and enjoy then the answer is yes. Something to ponder for the new year.

I hope that wherever you are and whatever you are doing you have a wonderful end of this year and a great beginning to the new year. See you in 2017!

100 Day Challenge Progress Report v 10

Really slowing down as the year comes to a close. Not a lot of items to report this week but I hit  the 100 item mark.

Trashed – my husband’s artificial tree – finally got him to agree to let go of this and a handmade angel topper for the tree( I never really cared for this but I thought it was one of hubby’s treasured family heirlooms then this year it finally fell apart and he said it wasn’t really special so we tossed it)

Donating – a hairbrush, a sweatshirt, a sweater, a pair of dress socks and a fabric bookcover

Still have lots of areas to go through so I’m going to keep on plugging along.

How is your challenge coming along? Have you started thinking about a challenge to start off 2017? Let me know in the comments.

100 Day Challenge Progress Report – v 7

Well I made some progress this week and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of decluttering.

I put 2 things in the donation pile – a pair of corduroy pants that are too short and too tight for me and a skirt that I no longer fit into.

I threw away 3 annual reports and an old church directory.

I gave a shirt and a pair of ear muffs to a friend.

That brings this week’s total to 8 items. Getting closer and closer to my goal.

How are things going with your challenge? Leave a comment and let me know what you are working on.

100 Day Challenge Progress Report – v. 2

Decluttering efforts for week two involved the big freezer, the garden and some furniture. Here’s the list –

Box of sliced/chopped steak slices – this suffered through a power failure and all the slices froze together into one huge block of meat. I kept meaning to figure out a way to chop it up but then we had another power outage and I decided to just toss the box. Between the thawing/refreezing and the length of time it was in the freezer I doubt that it would be any good now.

3 bags of chicken bones – I already  have several gallons of broth made and decided to just toss these.

1 partial bag of sour cherries – I bought these by mistake and no one really likes them. I thought I might make them into something but it hasn’t happened and probably won’t so out they go.

Half a bag of spinach – original date of purchase unknown but it had to have been awhile so out it goes.

Partial bag of red quinoa, expiration date over a year ago.

1 clump of ornamental grass – came up as a volunteer but it was too close to the baptisia  and it just didn’t look right

1 upholstered chair and 1 storage unit – the girl decided to take them for her apartment.

That makes 10 items for the week. I’m on schedule – hopefully I can keep it up and clear out some more stuff. How did your week go? Let me know by leaving a comment.

100 Day Challenge – 2016

I have been thinking about this since I first posted. There were several things I was considering doing on a daily basis – meditating for 5 minutes, walking at least 5 miles, or working  in the garden or the loft.  However, the way things have been around here lately, I don’t think I can commit to doing something on a daily basis.

Then I thought  about doing something weekly – reading a book from my shelves, working an hour in the garden, spending an hour  going through saved sites/recipes/projects/blogs on my laptop, working on my job search for an hour or working for an hour on creative projects. All of these are things I need to do but none of them are really appealing at this time.

I finally decided that  for the next 100 days I’m going to focus on decluttering and getting rid of things.  I’m feeling overwhelmed by the number of things I could be working on and I’ve decided I need to make some decisions about what projects I’m really going to commit to and which I need to let go of.  Also there is just a ton of stuff that I don’t really use or need and I’m ready to let go of it.  For this 100 day challenge I will get rid of at least 100 items by December 31, 2016.

I hope you will consider playing along and leave a comment below to tell what you are going to work on for the last 100 days of 2016. I will post an update on my progress each week and you can leave a comment to let me know how your challenge is going as well.  I look forward to reading your comments and cheering you on.

Thursday Tidbits

Just another unedited, sloppy installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Still loving the sweet autumn clematis display – so glad that I found that plant. Still have some raspberries ripening but this could be the last batch.  Also have some apples and pears to harvest.  There are some figs but they aren’t nearly ready to be picked.

The girl stopped for a visit. She is enjoying her new house although she hasn’t spent much time there. She is working two jobs to be able to afford it. I have a feeling that she may end up with a roommate sooner or later. I don’t think she’ll want to keep working so many hours but we’ll see how it goes.

The boy has been having some issues – I think it is too much exposure to advertising. Need to come up with a plan to balance screen time with other things. Hubby thinks we need to get him involved in something but what?? We’ve tried several sports, several musical instruments, scouting, art camps, horseback riding, shooting lessons – nothing seems to keep his interest for long. It is becoming a real struggle.

I’ll be back tomorrow to post about my choices for the 100 day challenge – hope you will join me and let me know what you will be working on. Until then, have a great day wherever you are.
