Tidbit Tuesday

Here are the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…

Last week we had temperatures in the low teens with windchills taking them down to the single digits and today it is in the upper 50’s – who knows what this is doing to my bulbs and perennials in the garden.

I’m thinking about a goal for February. It will be between drinking more water, doing some kind of exercise or something to do with my eating habits. I need all of them but I’m just going to pick one.

Have done a lot of reading but it has been mostly rereading of  treasured books. Need to get moving on my reading list – I haven’t updated it in months. Also need to update my financial records and see where we are.

Hope you are up to something fun today.

Monthly Update Monday  – today’s topic – A trip to the Galapagos Islands

I want to add a side trip to go to Machu Picchu when I go to the Galapagos Islands.  I’ve been researching some options and I have $6000 in my travel fund. I’d like to have at least $10,000 by the time I’m ready to go. I’m on track to do that as long as I continue to put $40 monthly  into the fund. It is already set up to happen automatically so it shouldn’t be a problem.

This week I am updating my savings progress. My hope is to have a total of  at least $250,00 in my retirement and emergency funds by the time I hit 60.

As  of  June 30, 2012 I have $169,348.81 which is 67% of my goal.  That means I need to save approximately $708/month or $8490/year to reach the goal. And of course the stock market needs to have more ups than downs in that time frame.  We’ll see how it goes.

Tidbit Tuesday

Lots of things floating around in my head today. Here are just a few…

I had such a good time at the retreat – I read several books, did some knitting and worked on how to achieve my goals.

Unfortunately I ate too much and did not move enough – need to get back on track.

Really need to get the Christmas stuff packed away.

End of year investment statements are coming in – time to see what the balance is.

Wish the weather would make up its mind – record highs and then snow followed by more record highs and more snow. I don’t like the extreme changes.

I’ve got chicken soup in the crockpot and it smells so good – can’t wait for dinner.

Wondering how everyone is doing with their 3 tasks. I’m almost done with my for the week. Be back Thursday with my report.

Savings Update

There is good news and bad news.  I’ll start with the bad – our investments went down in value. The good news is that DH’s  Beneficiary IRA has been transferred from his mother’s account to his retirement accounts. Therefore we are up to 143,785.42!!  Now if we can just keep it up there. Hopefully he will soon start getting a paycheck and we will be able to start investing again.

Be back again tomorrow with the fitness update

Tuesday Tidbits

Another random stream of information –

Spent a few hours in the garden this weekend. Dug up and replanted some bulbs, cut down some of the dead raspberries, put down some sawdust and newspaper, harvested more tomatoes and pulled out some dead sunflowers. Still more to do but it was a good start.

Starting to get the investment quarterly statements. Really do need to see how things are going. So far it is not too good, the funds have lost money and the totals are down.

Had a long talk with DD. I’m so glad I am past the teen years. I would hate to have to go through them again, especially now when things seem so much harder to deal with.

Have been doing some reading and need to get my reading page started. Also need to update the clutter page.

There is so much to do, I’m having trouble prioritizing. I should just start somewhere and get things moving. Instead I’m spending too much time trying to figure out what is most important to do and nothing is getting done.  I’m just going to close my eyes, point at my list and do whatever it is for at least 10 minutes. Hopefully that will get me started.

See you Friday

Tuesday Tidbits

Less than 100 days until I turn 50. Really want to get my weight down. I need to get serious about this.

First month of school is almost over and we are settling into a routine.  Kiddos seem to be happier about school this year. Hope it lasts.

Trying to get out to do some stuff in the garden but it is slow going. Hopefully I will able to get some transplanting done soon. I ordered some bulbs that will need planting once they get here. Things are beginning to shape up.

Need to take a look at finances and see where we are in terms of saving for yearly bills, retirement, emergency fund and college funds.  I know we are not near where I would like us to be. Need to find a way to get some more income. Maybe I should look for a part-time job. Hate the thought of trying to come up with a resume and cover letter after not working for 14 years.

Got to get something going for dinner. Be back again Friday.
