Just another unedited, sloppy installment of the random thoughts rolling around in my head today…
I put out three large bags and two small containers of stuff for pick up by the Viet Nam Veterans of America. It feels so good to get those things out of the house. My daughter took her snow board and a painting she had done and I tossed a Christmas dish towel that I couldn’t get clean. That brings my total up to 129 items! Unfortunately there is still a lot that could be cleaned out so I am going to continue working on this challenge next year.
We had a very nice visit with my dad, my sister and my niece and nephews. We took the cat which was an experience. He “talked” for almost all of the four hours we were in the car. He was not a fan of my niece’s dog – he would arch his back, hiss and put up his claws when the dog got too close.
As I suspected the girl was not able to make it but we had a nice visit last night. I finally got to meet the boyfriend. He was rather quiet but seems nice. They got a pair of young cats for Christmas. Now the boy is wanting to get another cat as well. Not sure how I feel about that.
The boy got everything on his list but is still not satisfied. He is very happy with what he got but still wants more. He got some cash (in addition to the gifts) from his grandparents and is upset that we won’t take him shopping. He hasn’t even had time to explore everything he got and he wants more. Definitely need to work on this attitude.
I’ve been thinking about plans for next year but I haven’t settled on anything yet. What are you hoping to accomplish in 2017? Let me know in the comments.

The plan was to go shopping for new glasses today but that got postponed when school was closed due to icy conditions. We’ll try again next week – yes “we” – I made plans to go with a friend because I need someone to help me follow through. I make plans but the follow through is hit or miss so I’m trying to get help wherever I can.
Yesterday I spent over 3 hours at the hospital with the boy. He decided he wants to try out for the school soccer team and he needed a physical. The school provided a physical during which he told the examiner that he coughs, has shortness of breath and chest pains when he exercises. She calls me to ask about it and I’m clueless because I’ve never seen that happen and he has never said anything. She says it is probably exercise induced asthma but could possibly be a heat problem. There are new guidelines in place and in order for him to be cleared for sports he will have to have an exam with a pediatric cardiologist. So we head to Childrens Hospital. While there, I discover that this has been going on for several years and he has said nothing about it! They find nothing wrong during the EKG but want to do another test, the Transthoracic Echo. That shows no problem so he is cleared for sports. Next we have to see if he is just out of condition or has exercise induced asthma. There is never a dull moment with this boy.
I may be headed back to the dentist soon. I’m afraid I might crack a tooth with all the clenching and grinding I’m doing lately. The cat is constantly jumping on the counters and I’m finding myself yelling at him to get down and then either clenching my jaw or grinding my teeth as I go to get him and move him away. The hubby says to spray him with water but it just seems cruel. Anyone out there have a successful method for keeping the cat off the counter??
I had a little excitement here when I set a couple of corn tortillas on fire while trying to toast them in my toaster oven. I wasn’t thinking and opened the door to get them out and of course that really caused them to flare up. I couldn’t get to the fire extinguisher because of the flames and ran upstairs to get one from up there. By the time I got it out of the box and got back downstairs the fire was almost out and there were a couple of piles of ashes to clean up.
All in all, it has been quite interesting around here. Hope all is good in your neck of the woods. Until next time, have a great day.

The boy and his friends built a snow ramp down the front steps and then added a bump and had a great time sledding down. So nice to see him outside away from a screen for awhile. Sad to see that it is melting away already – we hit 45 degrees today.
I’m learning a lot about cats. Marco, our cat, is a very snuggly cat which was a surprise to me. I’ve always thought of cats as not wanting much attention but Marco loves being around people. He also loves to jump on the counters and drink from the water spigot, any cup of water left out and my husband’s water bottle. We have a cardboard box full of scrap paper that we store under a bench and he loves to get in it and go to sleep.
We were turned down for a transfer to the online school but the guidance counselor is trying to work out a deal for a shortened day. Hopefully it will work out and the girl will be able to graduate. It appears that she is beginning to change her mind and wants to get the diploma – thank goodness.
I still haven’t done anything about determining my one word for 2016 or setting goals for the year. I’ve been trying to set up some daily routines but lately it hasn’t been going so well. Need to get my butt in gear and make some decisions and then start working on things. I’ve spent too much time waiting till I feel like doing something which means nothing gets done. I just need to get started on something – anything! Right now it is getting the sheets out of the dryer and onto the bed.
Hope you are having a great day wherever you are.
