Fitness Friday

We are now one-third of a way through the year and my fitness routine has fallen apart. I was doing fairly well through March but then Spring Break came and things went haywire. I need to once again get back into a routine and make more of an effort to stick to the program.  My stats so far are as follows:

12,000 steps per day  90/120                       Some yoga each day   95/120                                         100 days of planking    54/61

14,000 steps per day  57/120                        Strength/cardio 6 days/week  83/102

The goal for May is to walk at least 12,000 steps every day, practice the plank hold daily, do some kind of exercise for at least 8 minutes every day and to swim/bike/walk for at least 30 minutes 3 times. We’ll see how things go.

What are you doing to stay fit this month?

Fitness Friday

Last year’s first goal was to walk between 3,650,000 and 5,000,000 steps. My final total for the year was 5,034,294. I made a strong push at the end because I wasn’t sure how much walking I’d be able to do with the holidays and our getaway. It paid off because I reached 5 million on 12/29/14.  I did at least 10,00 steps on 327/365 days(89%) and over 13,700 steps on 207/365 days(56%).  This year I am going to try for a minimum of 12,000 steps per day and a stretch of 14,000 steps per day.

Last year’s other goal was to swim between 26,000 and 52,000 meters. I did not even come close with a total of 3200 meters for the year. I wanted to do more swimming last year but putting a distance on really brought out my resistance and did not work for me. I am working on how to get myself motivated to get to the pool more often but I’m not going to make it a goal for the year.

I’ve been doing my short yoga/stretching routine at least once every day and I’ve been trying out some weight training exercises. For cardio I did  some roller skating with the boy, some bowling with the family and a 15 minute ride on the stationary bike. I’m going slow and hopefully by the end of the month I will have developed the habit of doing some kind of exercise most days. Then next month, I can add more time each day.

How did your fitness goals go last year? Are you working on anything for this year. Leave a comment and let me know what you are doing to stay active this year.

I’m still on pace to hit 5 million steps so I’m thinking that for next year I’ll try to add a few more – maybe shoot for 5 and a half million steps.

This is my list of possible goals for next year – I will not be attempting all of them – just one or two

– riding the stationary bike for 5 miles – see what my baseline time is and then try to halve it by the end of the year

– setting a distance goal for riding the stationary bike

– doing 10 “real” pushups

– swim once a week, starting distance of 250m and moving up

– jumping rope once a week, starting with one minute and working up to 10 minutes

– daily yoga or stretching for at least 5 minutes

I’m still mulling over things and trying to see how everything can work together. What are you planning to do fitness-wise in 2015. Please let me know, it might spark my thinking process.

Another horrible  week!!

pounds to lose 12

daily average steps 15,273

But at least I’ve learned where I’m getting into trouble. It’s in my eating habits. There was a time when I was measuring/weighing every bite I put in my mouth. Then I started to just “eyeball” things and now I’ve gotten way off the mark.  I’m thinking I’m eating one serving when I’m actually eating one and a half or two.

According to the calculator on one of those fitness/nutrition sites(which I can’t remember ) I have a dailyneed for 1290 calories. If I’m doing some form of  exercise daily  I can go up to 1775 calories. This week I have been eating between 2000 and 2500 calories a day. That is an excess of anywhere from 1575 to 5075 calories a week. That translates into .45 to 1.45 pounds gained in a week.

Obviously, I need to do some serious revamping of the diet. I want to come up with some meals that I can have and know exactly what the calorie counts are. I want to come up with some snacks that will fill me up and keep me satisfied.

I will also need to pick up the pace when it comes to exercising. Maybe doing some riding on the stationary bike or try to increase my speed while I’m walking.

There are 95 days to go in my hundred day challenge, here’s how I’m doing so far.

-Take a least 15000 steps per day  4/5

-Write down what I eat and see how much I’m taking in to help me create a daily calorie goal – I will try to limit myself to 1800 and up my activity level and hope that will work  new daily calorie goal is 1800

-Zumba class once a week  1/1

-Start doing some exercises for my arms, abs and legs will try to do this 3 times/week – have done twice so far this week

-Get to bed by 10 pm every day  1/5

Obviously I have my work cut out for me. Here’s hoping I will have a much better report next week. Have a great weekend.

Really disappointed that I went back up again. I can’t seem to make any progress on the weight loss.  I really need to get serious about weighing what I’m eating and watching my calorie counts. I’ve been doing more moving around so I should be burning more calories unless I’m eating more than I think. I hate to record my food but I think it is the only way for me to get the scale moving down.

Zumba was okay. I’m definitely sweating a ton during the hour. I’m getting the hang of the steps but I do still get mixed up some times.

Maybe I’ll get motivated and do some kind of exercise this weekend. We’ll see how it goes.

Ta Da/To Do Thursday

Here were my three tasks for last week and my results…

1.  Create a rough schedule for the summer days -I have made a start on this and I’m plugging in activities

2.  Spend an hour in my sanctuary, continuing to reorganize and declutter – Spent the time but still have soo much to do. It feels like an overwhelming task but I’m plugging away at it.

3.  Go for a bike ride – My scheduled ride was cancelled due to rain and I didn’t schedule another.

Still need to work on all three of these so they will remain for next week.  How is your to do list coming along? Hope you can cross something off today.

Ta Da/To Do Thursday

Time to get things going – need to be more productive around here. Five weeks from today we will start summer vacation and there are some things I need to do before my kids are home and I want to get some general planning of the summer activities ready.  Here are 3 of the tasks I want to accomplish this week …

1.  Create a rough schedule for the summer days

2.  Spend an hour in my sanctuary, continuing to reorganize and declutter

3.  Go for a bike ride

What’s on your list for the upcoming week?

Tidbit Tuesday

Here’s the lastest installment of the things that are running through my head…

I love the look of my irises in bloom – I have white, yellow and purple ones.

I love the smell of my peonies as I walk past my dining room table.

I can’t wait for the strawberries to get really red. They are starting to get pink and the temptation to pick one is really strong in my DS. I’m trying to get him to wait but it isn’t easy.

So glad we had rain last night – the garden really needed it.

We really had a nice time at the bike oval on Saturday. It was a gorgeous day and there weren’t too many other people there. The kids were able to run around, bike and play.

There was an article in today’s paper about an indoor bike facility coming to town. That would be interesting.

I’ve gotten behind in reconciliing my business/personal credit card. I’ve been paying it but I haven’t actually been dividing it up. I’ve just paid it with whichever account had enough money. Need to get it staightened out and than keep it straight.

Went to “Camp Blast” a free day to explore what camp is like with DS on Sunday. He signed up for an overnight camp – 3nights and 4 days. We’ll see how it goes. He has never been away from home on his own before. He is also signed up for a week-long day camp through Cub Scouts. Plus he wants to go spend some time with my dad.

DD’s  confirmation is coming up. She wants a new dress and does need one but I hate the thought of shopping. She ordered one but didn’t like the way it looked. Now I need to return it and take her out for something else.

I guess that’s enough for now. Hope your day is going great.

No change on the scale     16317 steps average for the week

Did do some ab work today and am getting ready for a walk.  If the weather cooperates, I should be able to get in some bike riding tomorrow.

It is just too nice to be inside today. I’m heading out for a walk and then some work in the garden.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Ta Da/To Do Thursday

Here were my tasks for last week

1.  Exercise for 15 minutes – done,  have been doing a yoga sequence(sun salutation) every morning and went for my first bike ride of the year

2.  Work at least 5 hours in the garden – didn’t make it due to rain , freezing temps and soggy soil, did get some stuff done but it wasn’t five hours worth

3.  Wash the winter coats and put them away – we were supposed to get snow but it passed us by, we did however have near freezing temps and I didn’t get  things put away

I am going to keep the same three tasks for next week and hope to get them all checked off.

What did you accomplish last week?
